👶 NICU & PICU – Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Al Shafi Hospital are dedicated, high-dependency zones designed for the most vulnerable patients—newborns, infants, and children requiring specialized critical care. The NICU is equipped to manage premature births, low-birth-weight babies, congenital anomalies, respiratory distress, neonatal infections, and birth asphyxia. The PICU extends advanced care to children suffering from acute illnesses such as meningitis, sepsis, cardiac abnormalities, respiratory failure, and post-surgical recovery. Staffed with neonatologists, pediatric intensivists, neonatal nurses, respiratory therapists, and nutrition experts, both units deliver evidence-based care with a family-centered approach.

Both the NICU and PICU are technologically advanced, featuring incubators, ventilators tailored for pediatric physiology, phototherapy units, continuous monitoring systems, and infection-controlled environments. Strict protocols are in place to reduce the risk of nosocomial infections while ensuring optimal developmental support. Recognizing that a child’s critical illness impacts the entire family, our care teams offer emotional support, regular updates, and guided decision-making to parents. These units also emphasize early diagnosis, pain management, and nutritional rehabilitation for faster recovery and long-term well-being. By combining clinical excellence with warmth, our NICU & PICU departments stand as pillars of pediatric critical care, upholding Al Shafi Hospital’s commitment to safeguarding every precious life.
